Trees of the World (continued)


In countries that do not have tropical weather the age of trees can be found out when they fall over. This can be done by counting the number of rings on the trunk. Each ring is one year of the trees life. By looking at the rings you will see they get fatter and thinner. The thinner parts of the ring show the slow growth of winter. The fatter parts of the ring show the spring and summer months where it grew a lot.

Here is a list of the Tallest, Widest and Oldest trees in the World :


The Tallest Trees in the world are: 

  • Coast Redwood - 115 metres tall, lives in the Redwood National park, California

  • Coast Douglas Fir - 100 metres tall, lives in Oregon USA

  • Sitka Spruce - 96 metres tall, lives in the Redwood State park, California

  • Giant Sequoia - 93 metres tall, lives in the Redwood Grove, California

  • Australian mountain Ash - 92 metres tall, lives in the Styx Valley, Tasmania, Australia



The Widest Trees in the world are:
  • Giant Sequoia - 8.5 metres wide, lives in California

  • Coast Redwood - 7 metres wide, lives in California



The Oldest Trees in the world are:
  • Great Basin Bristlecone Pine - 4844 years old

  • Giant Sequoia - 3266 years old

  • Huon Pine - 2500 years old

  • Rocky Mountain Bristlecone Pine - 2435 years old
