Dan The Gardener Information for Parents
Welcome to our grown-up area for parents, grandparents and teachers. Our aim is to educate this and future generations to help preserve and save our planet. We hope that kids will grow to love our characters, whilst learning how to save the planet with them also. Topics range from recycling, re-using, reducing waste and saving energy, to water saving tips. There are games, activities and competitions, and a healthy living section to peel them away from the TV, get them doing fun exercise and remind them about the 5-a-day campaign.
We also encourage growing plants, herbs, fruit and flowers at home. This teaches them how plants are vital for life and the planet, but also gives a sense of responsibility by actually looking after them. You’d be amazed at how children love to get involved with growing their own plants and produce. A garden is not essential, lots of lovely fruit and plants can be grown in pots in a back yard, or herbs in a window box. We want children to grow up interested and aware of the environment, appreciating and respecting the planet they live on, and the resources it provides. We hope they will associate our characters with helping save the planet, and will want to join our campaign. We are a new site but will be adding many interesting items on a regular basis. We have purposely excluded any message boards or chat room facilities, making our site a safe place for children to visit over and over again. Take some time to have a look around our website with your child, and see what you can both learn. It only takes small changes to make a big difference. Office tips | 31 things kids should do | Stress management | How to get a good nights sleep | More tips | Netmums is a family of local websites set up and run by mums (hence the name, but of course dads and anyone involved in caring for young children are welcome too!).
