Nan Fran’s Rules for the Kitchen
Always ask a grown up if you can use the kitchen and if they will help you.
Read through your recipe to make sure you have all the ingredients before you start and do not be tempted to add extra ingredients.
Wash your hands before you touch food.
Wash fruit and vegetables before you eat them.
Always keep raw meat and fish apart from cooked meat and fish.

Use different chopping boards for raw and cooked food.
Wear an apron or towel to keep your clothes clean and remember to roll your sleeves and tie back long hair.
If you need to use an oven do not forget to turn it on and make sure you have the shelves in the right position. This is nearly always in the middle. Remember to always wear oven gloves when opening an oven door. Even if it is not yet hot it is a good habit to get into.
If you are using a knife make sure you use a chopping board as well and that a grown up is there to help you.
Always clean up when you are finished
