Gingerbread Men Recipe - Nan Fran's Recipe

Ingredients:

• 100g flour
• 50 g soft brown sugar
• 5 ml ground ginger
• 50 g butter
• 15 ml of milk
• 30ml golden syrup
• Currants, to decorate
  
  

Equipment:

• Rolling pin
• Small saucepan
• Mixing bowl
• Wooden spoon
• Ginger bread man cutter
• Baking tray
• Grease proof paper
• Palette knife/ fish slice

Method:

• Preheat oven to gas mark 180 c, gas mark 4. Place flour, sugar and ginger into a mixing bowl and mix together.
• Put the butter, milk and golden syrup into a small sauce pan then heat gently until the butter has melted. Ask a grown up to help you when using the hob.
• Remove it from the heat and let it cool for 2 to 3 minutes.
• Pour the butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon, until it makes a soft ball.
• Leave the mixture to cool until it is firm to touch.
• Then roll the mixture on a floured work surface until it is 0.5 cm thick.
• Cut out with a ginger bread man cutter.
• Line the baking tray with the greaseproof paper. Lightly grease the greaseproof paper so it wont stick.
• Put them onto the baking tray, using the palette knife.
• Allow them room to spread.
• Decorate with the currants adding eyes a nose and buttons.
• Bake in the oven for 10- 15 minute, always ask an adult to help you put trays into the oven.
• Leave to cool for a few minutes then transfer them onto a wire rack.
