Fruits


'If you are going to eat the fruit, skin included, make sure it's washed first'

Apple
An apple is a round fruit; it contains a core with seeds. It is one of the most popular fruits and is grown widely in Europe. The whole fruit is edible, apart from the seeds, but some people prefer to take off the peel before eating. Apples have a good Vitamin C content.

Banana
Bananas are a tropical fruit, which are picked when they are green (not - ripe). When bananas ripen they turn yellow with brown markings. They are full of healthy minerals.

Pear
Pears come from Asia and Europe. They are many different pears & they vary in colour. They're picked when they are nearly ripe & can sometimes be hard.

Grapes
Grapes are Red, Green and Black fruits that grow on a vine, and are used for making wine & eaten as fruits. Raisins are dried grapes & are a healthy snack.

Peach
Peaches have a very sweet flavour & smell. When a peach is ripe it has a red yellow colour. They have a soft furry skin, which is edible. Nectarines are similar to peaches but they have a smooth skin.

Pineapple
Ripe pineapples have a sweet taste and smell; they have a sharp prickly skin, which is peeled off before eaten.

Orange
Oranges are a thick-skinned citrus fruit. It is one of the most common fruits in the world. It is often used to make orange juice or just eaten. The fruit gets peeled before eaten and contain seeds which are not edible. The citrus family have many members, Mandarins, Tangerines, Clementines and Satsumas.

Mango
A mango is a red and yellow tropical fruit. It is one of the oldest fruits known to man. It has a tough edible skin but most people eat it without. The mango also contains a large stone.

Melon
A melon is a thick skinned fruit some which contains many seeds, the seeds need to be thrown away, or planted. They are very juicy with a high water percentage. There are a few different types, Watermelon, Honeydew and Galia

Raspberries
Raspberries are a member of the berry family. They are grown in spring, summer and autumn. They tend to be an expensive berry to buy. The berries can be red or even gold and are very sweet and tasty.
