Coconut fibre plant pots are made from the husks of coconuts. The Coconut is a very large fruit that comes from big trees from the palm family. The word coconut came from the Spanish who named it after el coco or the Spanish bogeyman because of its similar brown hair. The husk is the hairy brown outer coating of the fruit. This material is usually wasted in the favour of the fruit. You can now buy plant pots that are not plastic but made from coconut husks instead.
Plastic is a product made from oil, oil is a fossil fuel that is the result of millions of years worth of plants, animals and other organic material. It is deposited into the ground and drilled for and collected to burn for energy. The problem with plastics is that they do not biodegrade.
Jennifer Pickles- this means that unlike natural materials they do not break down and go back into the earth.
This is a major problem as the plastic will not go away, it will just build up into a bigger pile at the dump and go nowhere.
This is where the coconut fibre plant pots come in. Unlike the plastic plant pots coconut fibre pots are completely natural and biodegradable. So when you plant these pots into the next pot or into the ground they biodegrade and go back into the soil like they had never been there in the first place. Just like the plastic pots you can get them in all sizes so you can plant them into the next size up.
Unlike plastic pots coconuts pots are
Recyclable
Eco friendly
Biodegradable
Sustainable
Better for root growth
Better for drainage and they are able to be put straight into the ground without taking the plant out of the pot
