Recycling, Re-using and Reducing Waste
Recycle Michael wants to welcome you to the 3 R’s page. The 3r’s are Recycling, Re-using and Reducing waste. Waste is made up of things we throw away and 60% of this could be used over and over again. In Britain we throw away 28 million tonnes of rubbish each year. This is about the same weight as nearly 4 million elephants. Did you know that every plastic bag buried in a landfill takes 500 years to de-compose, and we use 150 million plastic bags a week in UK?
Everything we use is made from the earth’s natural resources; water, gas air plants animals and oil. You probably already know that paper is made from trees and wool comes from sheep, but did you know that glass was once sand, aluminium cans were once rocks, and that cotton comes from a plant?
Plastic is a man made product made from oil, gas & coal.
Getting rid of rubbish is a huge problem and that is why we must recycle, re-use and reduce as much as possible. Kerb-side collection is where you put your recycling outside the house and it is collected from you. Sometimes this service is not available, so you might have to take your recycling to a recycling centre and bottle bank.
